Kekuatan dan Cabaran Kaunseling Brief dari Perspektif Pelajar Program Kaunseling

Abstract


RESUME: Perkhidmatan kaunseling haruslah dikendalikan dengan penuh tanggungjawab demi memastikan perkhidmatan yang ditawarkan dapat membantu klien. Justru, kaunseling brief adalah pendekatan kaunseling pasca moden yang merupakan suatu alternatif kepada kaunselor dalam mengendalikan sesi kaunseling. Kajian ini bertujuan meneroka fokus, kekuatan, dan cabaran kaunseling brief dari perspektif pelajar kaunseling. Disamping itu, kajian turut mengenal pasti kesediaan pelajar kaunseling untuk mengikuti latihan kaunseling brief. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 33 orang pelajar kaunseling di sebuah IPTA (Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam). Pentadbiran soal selidik terbuka dilaksanakan bagi memperoleh data kajian. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis kandungan (content analysis). Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa majoriti sampel memilih kaunseling brief berfokuskan penyelesaian sebagai pilihan berbanding berfokuskan masalah. Disamping itu, majoriti sampel berpandangan bahawa kaunseling brief adalah suatu pendekatan yang cepat, efektif, dan berarah kepada penyelesaian. Walau bagaimanapun, isu berkaitan penggunaan soalan yang banyak kepada klien merupakan suatu cabaran bagi sampel kajian. Namun keseluruhan sampel kajian bersedia untuk mengikuti latihan kaunseling brief sekiranya dianjurkan.

ABSTRACT: This article entitled “Strength and Challenges of Brief Counseling from Perspectives among Counseling Program Students”. Counseling services should be handled with the utmost responsibility to ensure that the offered services could help clients. Hence, brief counseling is a post-modern counseling approach as an alternative to the counselors in conducting counseling sessions. This study aims to explore the focus, strengths, and challenges in the brief counseling from students’ perspective. A part of that, the study also identified the willingness of counseling student to attend the brief counseling training. The sample consisted of 33 counseling students in a Public Higher Education Institution. A set of open-ended questionnaire was administered in order to obtain the data. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The findings showed that the majority of sample chose solution focused compared to problem focused. The findings also revealed that the majority of the sample viewed brief counseling as a fast, effective, and solution oriented approach. However, the issue of too many questions being employed in the session towards the clients seems to be challenge to them. Overall, majority of sample in the study are willing to attend the brief counseling training.
